Or should I say.. food festival?
The Fest contained 40 countries’ pavilions that served different varieties of national food and drinks. Me and my husband had been lurking on their website few days before that, researching and planning what we were going to eat there.
First thing first.. food tickets!! Or tokens as I call it.. Admissions were free, but tokening was the way to pay for food. Mr.Ragil bought the tokens at Save On Food just few days before the fest.
Weather hasn’t been so friendly the last couple of days. The shifting week from July to August has been cold and rainy. No storm, but windy. We planned to go on Saturday but the forecast wasn’t promising. So we called it off. Sunday was no different. It was warmer but worrisome. “We’ll go Monday”, Mr.Ragil said.
It’s a long weekend, Monday is Alberta Day, so Mr.Ragil got a day off from work. We left home 10:30, in the middle of my “Hogan Knows Best” reality show. But a good call, as we got to the parking lot of U of A, it was almost full. From there, we took a bus to William Hawrelak Park.
The bus dropped us right behind the Cambodian Site. We got a park map and started walking. I’d been daydreaming about Nasi Lemak that’s supposed to be available at the Malaysia-Singapore Site. I specifically wanted that for my breakfast. But, we found the site nowhere in sight. I was disappointed
On to the next food.. or site, lol. Poffertjes!! Yayyy.. Back to the days when we were still lurking, I set my eye on some sweet pancakes-like food: the Crepes (French) and Poffertjes (Dutch). But Mr.Ragil said, I had to choose.. So I chose poffertjes, ’cause I can eat Crepes in 2 months time

Poffertjes. Lekker!!
Next, Mr.Ragil wanted some Samosa from the Pakistan Site. But when we get there.. uh-oh, they scrape the Samosa text on the board. Mr.Ragil was disappointed, but he was hungry I could tell. So he got himself a Rice Pilao, Chicken Curry & Salad, which is curried chicken served with lightly spiced rice.

Rice Pilao, Chicken Curry & Salad. Very Good!!
From the Pakistan Site, we walked to find good food for me. I insisted to search the Singapore Site again. We did, but found nothing. Mr.Ragil sighed and said, “You’re not gonna find it!”. I think he was slightly annoyed too by how determined I was. I kept looking, traced the tents and finally found it waaaay on the back.
I was getting my nasi lemak! A bit disappointed because the menu says: coconut rice, vegetable spring rolls and curry chicken. Of course, I was thinking I would get the kind of nasi lemak they have back when I was in Malaysia: coconut rice, small fish, maybe a chicken and krupuks (crackers). I reminded myself again that once a food got to a different country, the taste changes.

Nasi Lemak. Delicious!!
In between our meals, there were performances from countries. We stopped and watched. Arabic stand had a good one. A play that taught people on morals to be humble. The Irish community showed 6 girls and a boy tapped dancing. And there was youth ballet from Russia.
Time to go home. Not really, we just felt full so there’s nothing else we felt like doing except hitting the pillow, lol. But we still had a couple tokens in hand. So I got myself an ice cream and iced tea (gee, I never imagine how much people here like sweet!). And we headed home..
Good day, good food.. Myself, my husband and my stomach were happy =D
